The History department is one of the most successful in the school and regularly achieves good Key Stage 3 and GCSE results. We have three excellent teachers in the department who try their hardest to bring the past to life in their lessons. Here is a brief outline of what you will learn during your history lessons.
Key Stage 3
Year 7
You will learn about various aspects of Medieval England including:
- The struggle for the throne in 1066
- Castles
- Living in a Medieval Village
- The Black Death
- The Murder of Becket
- The Peasants Revolt
Year 8
In year 8 you move on to look at Tudors, Stuarts, Cromwell and the Industrial Revolution. The topics include:
- The Gunpowder Plot
- English Civil War
- England under Cromwell
- Child Labour
- The rise and fall of the British Empire
- Democracy in the 1800s
Year 9
In year 9 things get much more modern! You will look at:
- The First World War
- The inter war years
- The Second World War
- The Cold War

International Relations 1919-1939
- The years between World War One and World War Two, investigating how nations tried to keep the peace.
- The collapse of peace in the 1930’s
- The causes of the Second World War
USA 1919-1940 
- The 1920’s in the United States (the ‘Roaring Twenties’, boom, women, prohibition, gangsters)
- The Wall Street Crash in 1929
- The Great Depression of the 1930’s.
- The New Deal
The Rise of Hitler and the Nazis (controlled assessment topic)

Britain 1906-18
