Physical Education

WELCOME TO PHYSICAL EDUCATION AT THAMESMEAD SCHOOL

This thriving and busy department is led by Mrs Robins-Kent, along with Mr Reeves, Mrs Ward, Mrs Lloyd and Mr Moulton.

Physical Education is a National Curriculum foundation subject, which is compulsory at Key Stages 3 and 4 for all students.

As a department we aim to make sure we build a connection with long term physical involvement, so that students choose healthy, active lifestyle which continues not only outside school but for the rest of their lives.

We aim to do this by offering all students a broad and balanced curriculum with a range of activities that require different techniques and different ways of thinking.

The curriculum is split into the following blocks:-

Outwitting opponents – games such as netball, football, rugby, volleyball, tennis, cricket, rounders, softball

Accurate replication of actions – gymnastics

Exploring and communicating ideas – dance

Exercising safely and effectively – fitness, aerobics

Identifying and solving problems to overcome challenges

In Key Stage 3, all students have 2 lessons a week and are assessed each half term on the 2 activities they have covered which is based on their practical ability, understanding of the rules and regulations and then on how they evaluate their own and the work of others.

Taking part in Sports Day
