Apprentice Machinist

Location: Woking

Job Type: Fixed Term Contract

Contract Duration: 4 Years

Purpose of the Role:

You’ll be trained in all aspects of the manufacture of Metallic and Composite components, operating various manual and CNC machine tools, within our manufacturing departments at the McLaren Technology Centre.

Role Dimensions:

  • This role is on our Monday to Friday dayshift working in the STCM and the Machine shops
  • ‘Day-release’ to College to support relevant Engineering Qualifications

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Trained in the basics of milling and turning for the first 18 months
  • Trained in various aspects of CNC machining through our Mazak and Mikron machine shops
  • Trained in the manufacture of components to supplied drawings and cad models. This will include setting up and programming on multi-axis CNC mills and machine centres
  • Maintain a log book and ensure all college work is up to date for monthly reviews
  • Responsible for the cleanliness and housekeeping in the workplace
  • To learn, understand and implement Health and Safety legislation as it applies in the workplace
  • In addition to these functions and where appropriate, Apprentices will be required to carry out other duties as may be reasonably requested

Experiences, Skills, Knowledge:

  • Level 2 Engineering Qualification or similar
  • 5 GCSE qualifications of grade 4/C or above

You will be someone who is proactive and who uses their initiative at any opportunity. It’s busy here, so you’ll love getting stuck in, and you’re motivated to learn and develop. Being able to work well in a team is essential, and you’ll need a flexible and methodical approach to working.

Apprentice Composite Technician

Location: Woking

Job Type: Fixed Term Contract

Contract Duration: 4 Years

Purpose of the Role:

You’ll be trained in the manufacturing processes of composite parts and assemblies to support our Formula 1 Team at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking. Principally, tooling, laminating, trimming and bonding of various composite components.

Role Dimensions:

  • This role is to join our Monday to Friday dayshift, working in the Trim & Assembly and Laminating departments
  • ‘Day-release’ to College to support relevant Engineering Qualifications

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Training to include, but not limited to; trimming, bonding, safe hand tool use, ‘pre-preg’ and ‘wet’ laminating, tool manufacture, composite materials, autoclave / oven use, vacuum bagging
  • Working with supplied drawings and cad models
  • Maintain a log book and ensure all college work is up to date for monthly reviews
  • Be responsible for cleanliness and housekeeping in the workplace
  • To learn, understand and implement Health and Safety legislation as it applies in the workplace
  • In addition to these functions and where appropriate, apprentices will be required to carry out other duties as may be reasonably requested
