Curriculum Information for Key Stage 3 students

Welcome to the Maths department

Aim:

Our aim is for all our students to acquire a deep, long-term, secure and adaptable understanding of the subject.  In order to do this, they must be able to:

  • Develop conceptual understanding and the ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately across different mathematical facts and concepts.
  • Make rich connections across mathematical ideas to develop fluency, mathematical reasoning and competence in solving increasingly sophisticated problems.
  • Able to apply their mathematical knowledge to Science, Design and Technology and other subjects.
  • Know that Maths is essential to everyday life and further study; critical to science, technology and engineering, and necessary for financial literacy and most forms of employment.

What topics will I study in KS3:

Year 9 Foundation Scheme of Work

Year 9 Higher Scheme of Work

Can I study this at KS4?

Yes this is a core subject and is studied by all students

Are there any enrichment opportunities in school?

Additional maths is offered as a separate subject in year 11.

What could I do/read at home to help myself or where could I visit to help my learning?

Ensure all set Hegarty or Sparx homework tasks are done and that you score at least 70% or higher on each task. If you get stuck on a question, then watch the video related to that topic on Hegarty or Sparx and have a go with the task again.

In addition to this, we have a KS3 drop-in session weekly after school in room 4C where Maths teachers will be available to help you with any homework tasks that you are stuck with.
