Music at Thamesmead School
Our Head of Performing Arts and Music is Mrs Jennie Burtsell. Mr Gareth Evans is our other music teacher and we also have many visiting instrumental teachers.
We offer an outstanding music provision at Thamesmead and are keen to enable all students to enjoy music and fulfill their potential.
In addition to class music lessons there are a variety of extra-curricular music activities ranging from choirs to rock bands, orchestra to an African Drumming group. Details of clubs are displayed in Student Notices during tutor time, in the Thamesmead Talk newsletter and on the notice board in the music department foyer. We look forward to seeing as many students as possible at these music clubs.
There has been a huge amount of research into the benefits of music on our well-being and academic success and it has been proven that playing a musical instrument can enhance a child’s development. We would highly recommend any child to have instrumental lessons.
We currently have provision for drum kit, piano, guitar, flute, saxophone, clarinet, brass instruments and singing lessons – and we are always trying to expand the instruments we cater for. Lessons take place at various times during or after school in the music department and last for 30 minutes at a charge of £18 per lesson. If you would like your son or daughter to start instrumental lessons at Thamesmead School please fill in the application form above.
If your child would like to start learning an instrument that is not yet catered for please contact Mrs Burtsell directly on J.Burtsell@thamesmead.surrey.sch.uk
