Thanks to all parents who supported the Performing Arts’ workshops last week by signing up their sons and daughters for what proved to be a fantastic event. Each afternoon of Tues 27th – Thurs 29th we had a professional actor, dancer or choreographer visiting the department and working with 30 students in each class. On Tuesday, Dane came to teach a routine from CATS and in addition to teaching the students the actual show choreography for the song ‘Jellicle Songs for Jellicle Cats,’ he also showed them a costume from the production plus a headdress made of yak hair, worth £3,000.00!
On Wednesday, actor and dancer Billy Cullum taught the students the choreography for 2 numbers from ‘Matilda’ and these were fast-paced, characterful dances which really got our actors moving. Finally, on Thursday, Jess Edgar from Stars Performing Arts in Shepperton, ran a drama workshop involving character development, improvisation and lots of hats!
All our students worked incredibly hard, were courageous and imaginative and a credit to their parents/carers and to us as a department and whole school. We’d like to thanks Stars Performing Arts for helping us set up this great event and look forward to many more such collaborations in the future.
