We know that to prepare our students for their adult lives we need to help them develop individual skills and interests. We encourage participation in a daily range of Thamesmead Plus activities, to extend learning and develop these skills.
Activities vary each term and include options such as STEM Science, Drama, Journalism, Debating, Vocalistix, Orchestra, Jazz, Acoustic Rock, Textiles, Book, Basketball, Boxing Fit, Art, Football, Basketball, Rugby, Rounders, Netball, Urban Dance, Gym and Maths!
KS3 and KS4 Study Room facilities are available in the Learning Centre and in our ICT suite daily. Student Support also offers extra help for SEND students after school.
The current after school programme can be found here
We run many UK and overseas field trips along with visits to exhibitions, workshops and theatres; experiences that further enrich our students’ learning. Many take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme in the UK and the World Challenge programme offers global opportunities. In July 2015 two groups of students travelled to Malaysia to volunteer at a school and take part in trekking activities. In 2017 students explored Sri Lanka and Tanzania. Current students are fundraising for expeditions to Costa Rica in 2019. (see ‘Thamesmead Adventure’ below, for more details)
Over recent years we have taken trips to Amsterdam, the French & Belgian Battlefields, Poland, Lake Garda, Barcelona and a Ski Trip group to Italy. There is a history trip to New York planned for May 2018.
Visiting groups run workshops, drama presentations, business challenges and road safety awareness. In addition, Enterprise Days and Skills Fairs develop employability skills such as independent thinking and problem solving. We welcome the involvement of these groups adding to the experience of our students.
Thamesmead Adventure is a whole school, inclusive programme of great days out, residential trips and courses to enjoy outdoor life and the excitement and challenge of outdoor pursuits and activities. It aims to promote physical and mental well-being, develop character, gain specific knowledge and skills and generally encourage a positive attitude to life. Most importantly Thamesmead Adventure gives everyone the chance to succeed.
