We are delighted to have taken delivery of a new laser cutter for the Design & Technology department. This has been part funded by a generous donation from the Friends of Thamesmead School.
This piece of equipment will be used by all students across the school in their D&T lessons and will be particularly beneficial to those taking D&T at GCSE level.
The new cutter can cut and/or engrave acrylic, wood, metal and even stone. The cutter is programmed using special software and a laser inside the machine then cuts or engraves the material. Students are beginning to have demonstrations of this in their lessons and will soon be using it for their own projects.
